This Privacy Policy describes how RoomPear ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the RoomPear mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services").

By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

3. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account: email address and password (or credentials from a sign-in provider if enabled).
• Profile: name, phone number, age, gender, ethnicity, biography, occupation, hobbies or interests, profile prompts and answers, profile photos, and similar fields you choose to add.
• Housing preferences: location information (such as city, state, postal code, and the search location/coordinates you set to find roommates nearby), budget range, room type, move-in timing, lease duration, lifestyle preferences, interest tags, dealbreaker preferences, and related preference data.
• Listing information (optional): if you create a listing, details such as rent, room type, address, location fields, move-in date, and listing photos.
• Messages: content you send in in-app conversations and related metadata (such as timestamps).
• Activity: swipes and passes, mutual matches, conversation read state where implemented, and data needed to operate discovery and chat.
• Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic or log data used to secure and improve the Services.
• Purchases (if applicable): Apple or Google process payments; we may receive limited subscription status information from Apple and our subscription provider (RevenueCat) to unlock premium features.

4. How we use information

We use personal information to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Show your profile to other users and show you other users’ profiles for matching.
• Operate discovery, swiping, matching, and chat.
• Store and display listings you choose to publish.
• Send service-related messages and push notifications if you opt in.
• Improve, secure, and troubleshoot the App; detect abuse; and comply with law.
• Enforce our terms and protect users.

5. How we share information

We share information only as needed to run the Services:

Service providers process data on our instructions, including Supabase (authentication, database, file storage, and realtime features) and, when enabled, subscription management (RevenueCat), analytics, crash reporting, and push notification delivery.

Profile information you make visible in the App is visible to other users in accordance with how the App works.

To support distance-based matching and discovery, we use your search location to filter and rank other users on the server. Your precise search coordinates are not shared with other users; other users may see general location information (such as city and state) that appears on your profile.

We may disclose information when required by law, to enforce our agreements, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our users, or the public.

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell your personal information to data brokers for money.

6. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port certain personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise these rights, contact roompearapp@gmail.com. You can delete your account in the App (Profile → Settings → Delete account), subject to legal retention requirements.

You can control permissions such as notifications or photo library access through your device settings.

7. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

The Services are intended for users who are at least 18 years old. If you are younger, do not use the Services without parental permission where required by law.

8. Security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure.

We keep personal information as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or comply with law.

9. International transfers

We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your country.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on our website and update the effective date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law.
